WHO: After a record-breaking fifth annual Mavs Ball last year, the Mavs Foundation is back again to celebrate and raise funds for area children, women and families at the sixth annual Mavs Ball, this Saturday, May 8, 2021. A special thanks to our friends at AT&T for presenting the sixth annual Mavs Ball, along with Sprite for serving as a partner for the special entertainment and after-party celebration.
The Mavs Foundation raised $1.1 million at the event last year, which allowed the organization to pump all the proceeds right back into the North Texas community.
Over the last year, Mavs leadership, players and sponsors rallied together to donate $8 million to COVID-19 relief, along with providing monetary assistance and resources to help rebuild Dallas after the winter storm that rocked the area. The organization also provided grants and funds to assist area nonprofits, renovated two basketball courts, donated two reading and learning centers for youth and adults, plus contributed time and resources for countless other community initiatives.
WHAT:
The sixth annual Mavs Ball: House Party Edition will be a virtual event, but still full of all the glitz, glamour and excitement like previous years. The entire Dallas Mavericks team, plus owner Mark Cuban, head coach Rick Carlisle and CEO Cynt Marshall will be on hand. The unique experience will take place from the comfort of your home with entertainment and appearances by the team, plus heartwarming stories of the important role the Mavs Foundation plays in the North Texas community.

The annual Mavs Ball is the premier fundraising event to allow us to provide grants to local organizations.
TRADITIONAL MAVS FOUNDATION GRANTS 2020-2021
Bonton Farms – $25,000
What started out as a garden in a small lot has grown into two fully functioning farms and the Bonton Market. The organization grows organic food and hope for a better tomorrow, right in the Bonton community and on a separate 40-acre farm south of Dallas. They’re determined to grow the best-tasting, healthiest produce in the city while inspiring hope in everyone around us. They also house free-range chickens, goats, turkeys, rabbits and beehives that provide an abundance of fresh eggs, milk and honey.
CASA of Tarrant County – $25,000
CASA of Tarrant County pairs trained, court-appointed volunteer advocates with children and teens who have been taken into custody by Child Protective Services, for the purpose of serving as the child or teen’s “voice” as they move through the family court system. A $25,000 grant from the Mavs Foundation will go towards our advocacy program and help us recruit, train, and supervise CASA volunteers and lower our waiting list of children in need.

Catholic Charities of Dallas – $10,000
We educate, serve, and empower more than 200,000 clients in need annually across a nine-county region of North Texas, addressing the root causes of poverty, food insecurity, educational inequity and homelessness. CCD will utilize the generous grant from the Mavs Foundation to provide tablets and hotspots for families enrolled in our Together We Learn early childhood education and parenting program.
Community Partners of Dallas – $25,000
Community Partners of Dallas provides for the immediate and urgent needs of abused and neglected children in Dallas County so they can take their first steps toward healing. Our Kids in Crisis Program provides funding for critical needs such as clothing, transportation, enrichment activities, housing, medical expenses, and therapy for children in need.
Crossroads Community Services – $25,000
Crossroads Community Services’ mission is to nourish our community’s low-income families by providing nutritious food and supportive education. Crossroads will use Mavs Foundation funds to help ensure a reliable supply of nutritious foods remains accessible to low-income families throughout and beyond the COVID-19 crisis.
In 2019, Crossroads served 32,773 people and distributed 5.5 million pounds of food. By the end of 2020, Crossroads served ~84,000 people and distributed 11.8 million pounds of food. Forty percent of those we serve are children. With the rise in demand for food and the eventual moving on of the National Guard and ShiftSmart, Crossroads’ expenses also rose
“Laura works as a property manager for an apartment building, and she and her husband have three children – two under four and an 11-year-old son released from school in last March. Their 11-year-old has asthma and is in a high-risk group that will prevent him from returning to school until COVID-19 is no longer a threat. Laura and her husband take turns caring for the children while the other parent works. Laura said of Crossroads, “I think it’s awesome if you’re struggling.” To Dallas Mavericks Foundation and all Crossroads’ donors, Laura said, “Thank you very much for all you are doing! I am so thankful for you all during this time!”
Dallas Pets Alive – $10,000
Dallas Pets Alive mission is to promote and provide the resources, education and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals in North Texas. This funding will be used for veterinary treatment, behavioral training; temporary boarding costs; and supplies.
MHMR Visions – Basketball Court Renovation
MHMR Visions supports for those among us with serious mental health challenges and intellectual disabilities. Visions enhances services for babies, children, youth, and adults with developmental delays, intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral health disorders. The Mavs Foundation will be renovating the outdoor basketball court at MHMR giving the youth a fun and safe place to play.
Metroport Meals on Wheels – $25,000
Metroport Meals On Wheels, founded in 1980, is a grassroots volunteer organization that serves as an advocate for the elderly and chronically ill individuals in northeast Tarrant, southern Denton, and eastern Wise counties. Funds from the Mavs Foundation will go to providing essential meals and welfare checks to struggling seniors.
North Texas Food bank – $25,000
The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a top-ranked nonprofit hunger-relief organization operating a state-of the-art volunteer and distribution center in Plano, the Perot Family Campus. The Mavs Foundation Funding will be used to help feed families across North Texas affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Project 4301 – $10,000
Project 4031 offers no-cost services to terminally ill children and adults with a life expectancy of six months or less who are considered hospice eligible. This financial assistance is critical and keeps those in need from displacement and homelessness, giving families desperately needed breathing room. The Mavs Foundation grant allows Project 4031 to prevent homelessness, relieve significant financial burden, and lessen undue trauma for the terminally ill population and their families.

Rainbow days – $10,000
Rainbow Days is a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Founded in 1982, Rainbow Days has a mission to help children and youth in adversity build coping skills and resilience to create positive futures. Funding will be used for holiday gifts, food, winter clothing, toiletries, and other critical items for more than 150 children and parents experiencing homelessness while living in local motels.
SM Wright Foundation – $10,000
The Wright Family established the S.M. Wright Foundation in 1998. Its mission is to provide support and stability to underprivileged children and less fortunate families through hunger relief, economic empowerment, and assistance in the areas of education, health, and social services. Funds from the Mavs Foundation are used to support the Christmas in the Park program, serving low-income youth during the holidays.
Stepping Stones Foundation -$10,000
Project Perseverance and Project Hunger Force is Stepping Stones Foundations’ largest outreach programs for youth in crisis. Funds from the Mavs Foundation are used to provide the basic human necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing all the while helping to fulfill emotional needs such as significance, connection, and self-worth.

YBC – $25,000
Youth Believing in Change provides a spiritual and educational foundation through year-round programming to the children of Victory Meadow in Dallas, TX. This generous gift from the Mavs Foundation is used to underwrite the costs of afterschool and summer programming for children from the under-served Vickery Meadows community.
YMCA Metropolitan Dallas – Oak Cliff Branch
The Mavs Foundation will be renovating the Oak Cliff YMCA’s Reading and Learning Center in summer of 2021. The new fun and inclusive space will provide a much needed updated area for the youth to learn and play with fresh technology, reading materials, and STEM activities.
Youth 180 – $25,000
The Mavs Foundation grant supported our clinical services – a critical program providing healing for the many children, youth and families in our community that are struggling with mental health and substance use disorders.

CASA Dallas
With social distancing and school year disruptions, the risk increases that a child in foster care will feel isolated and forgotten. Thanks to the generous support of the Mavs Foundation, Dallas CASA is better able to commit to making sure the voices of today’s child victims of abuse and neglect are still being heard and their needs are still being met.
Childcare Group
COVID-19 has left many families on the edge and in need of support and relief efforts. Funding from the Mavs Foundation will enable ChildCareGroup to provide the families they serve, all living at or below the federal poverty limit, with basic necessities that they are struggling to pay, educational supplies, technology needs and internet access.
CitySquare
90 percent of the 58,000 neighbors impacted by CitySquare in 2019 were below the poverty line, with many of them classified as “working poor.” Most live in asset poverty and are unable to afford missing a paycheck as businesses are shuttered, schools and childcare closes, and paid sick leave benefits only are afforded to certain individuals. For our homeless neighbors, there is great uncertainty as to where the services they rely on- food, medical care, case management, transportation, and more- will be able to be distributed as the health regulations change daily. With funding from the Mavs Foundation CitySquare will remain committed to remaining open for those in need.
Communities Foundation of Texas, North Texas Community Response Fund
NTX Community Response Fund Established to support community needs in response to COVID-19. Funds from the Mavs Foundation will support individuals and families who need access to food and/or healthcare, supplementing lost wages and/or housing costs or support for agencies who work with vulnerable populations such as seniors and/or homeless.
Communities in Schools
With funds from the Mavs Foundation, since March 23rd, 2020 Communities in Schools will provide resources and referral services for emergency assistance and basic needs support, emergency food services, food delivery for district partners and social-emotional support to families.
Community Food Bank
The funding from the Mavs Foundation is very much needed and is used to purchase additional canned food; our can food supply has been depleted from the influx of new clients because of the COVID-19 effects on the DFW area.
Community Partners of Dallas
Funds from the Mavs Foundation will be used to meet the most critical basic human needs for families with open CPS cases through Community Partners of Dallas, providing things ranging from baby formula to rent assistance. As more than 3/4 of our client population lives on less than $14,000 annually, they have been especially hard hit by the economic shutdown. This support is intended to keep children healthy and safe, giving abused children what they need today to thrive tomorrow.
Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center
Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center provides and facilitates a coordinated approach to child abuse cases that results in more successful investigation and prosecution outcomes. They provide national leadership on child abuse issues.

During COVID-19 For Oak Cliff has shifted their work to provide relief efforts to South Dallas community members, through food and essential needs drives. Funds from the Mavs Foundation allow For Oak Cliff to amplify their services and provide to the neighbors in the Superblock of Dallas.

With a have seen a significant uptick in reported and non-reported abuse during COIVID-19, Genesis Women’s Shelter continues to provide support for women and children in need of safe homes. Funding from the Mavs Foundation assists in continuing these services while ensuring healthy and safety.
Hope Supply Co.
Thank you to funding from the Mavs Foundation Hope Supply Co. is able to continue providing the critical items families in low-income situations have come to depend on Hope Supply Co. for, such as diapers, wipes and pull ups for area infants and toddlers.
Hunger Busters
With funding from the Mavs Foundation, Hunger Busters will be able to continue out their mission to serve youth in the Dallas Independent School District with food insecurities.
Meals on Wheels Tarrant County
Meals on Wheels Tarrant County provides meals to food insecure individuals 60+ and their spouses. During COVID-19 Meals on Wheels Tarrant County are providing an increased number of meals at an unprecedented rate. Fund from the Mavs Foundation help serve this surge in need to families across Tarrant County
Minnie’s Food Pantry
Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, Minnie’s Food Pantry has been experienced an increase in clientele as many individuals are being affected economically as businesses are closing and schools are shutting down. With support from the Mavs Foundation Minnie’s Food Pantry will remain open to continue providing for those in immediate need of supplemental food assistance and has no plans on shutting the doors as long as there is food on hand to distribute.
North Dallas Shared Ministries
North Dallas Shared Ministries provides temporary emergency assistance to those in need in North Dallas. Funding from the Mavs Foundation enables North Dallas Shared Ministries to increase the number of seniors and disabled persons served through Friday FoodBasket, expand the number of individuals/households with need for food, and prevent homelessness and disconnect of utilities for low-income households whose precarious position was further weakened by COVID-19.
North Texas Food Bank
The Mavs Foundation gift of $20,000 enables the North Texas Food Bank to provide 60,000 nutritious meals to hungry families in North Texas. During this time of despair the North Texas Food Bank is able to continue to sustain normal operations such as: Creating family meal boxes and making these available for Partner Agencies, working with local school districts to ensure continuity of our Food 4 Kids program and School Pantry program and collaborating with the City of Dallas to prepare and deliver snack/hydration kits for the homeless.
SafeHaven of Tarrant County
Funds from the Mavs Foundation support additional operating expenses as a direct result of COVID-19, allowing SafeHaven to continue to offer lifesaving and life-changing services to domestic violence victims.

In 2020, funding from the Mavs Foundation supported Austin Street Center in serving 1,389 unique men and women experiencing homelessness.
